While Pakistan has previously employed similar technology to ban websites and social media applications, including the Canadian-based Netsweeper, this new firewall will be used to analyze data emanating from various IP addresses.



According to the official, the national firewall would serve two major purposes: identifying sources of "propaganda material" and then blocking or limiting their visibility."The national firewall will serve two purposes: identify the locations from where the propaganda material is being originated and the subsequent blockade or diminished coverage of those accounts," a source told the newspaper. "But, I think the main focus will remain on locating the source of such propaganda to nip the evil in the bud" .


There will be a keyword screening mechanism to detect anything deemed undesirable or a danger to national security, which will most likely be hidden from outside users.
